Daniele Beaulieu
Pioneer of tenkara in Quebec, founder of Tenkara Canada / Tenkara Quebec, and first ambassador of tenkara.ca.
BIOGRAPHY · 略歴
From traditional fly fishing to a single rod.
Daniele Beaulieu began fly fishing in 2000. For 14 years, she practiced the traditional two-handed technique — reel, fly line, vest with pockets. Then in 2014, she discovered tenkara. The revelation was immediate: one rod, one line, one fly. The entire river within reach of what she could hold in a single hand.
She made it her mission to bring this technique to anglers throughout Quebec. She founded Tenkara Canada / Tenkara Quebec in 2018, imports high-quality Japanese rods, and organizes on-demand workshops for fly fishing clubs and associations across the province.
Nicknamed Tenkara Ninja by the community, she has already caught brook trout, smallmouth bass, ouananiche, and even steelheads over 5 kg with her tenkara rod in the rivers of Quebec and the northern United States. Her next challenge: an Atlantic salmon on a single rod.

Tenkara is simple: one rod, one line, one fly. And the whole river as your playground.

Fly fishing competition, Rivière Montmorency.
The first fly fishing competition in eastern Quebec. Daniele Beaulieu competed with her tenkara rod — a concrete demonstration that the Japanese technique holds its own against traditional Western methods. The event was held at the Forêt Montmorency, Université Laval’s forestry reserve, which has since become a symbolic landmark of tenkara in Quebec.
